Epic Visits

The setting of their story is Viscri, and right in the middle of the village stands a house with four windows facing the morning sun, which remained empty for 15 years. This is the house of Johann Dootz at number 32, where two young individuals decided to move without too many plans in the snowy winter of 2016.

They sold their belongings from the city and came to Viscri to slow down their pace of life, change their lifestyle, get involved in the village community, and live healthier. After a restoration full of adventures, using traditional materials and local craftsmen, they managed to restore the charm of the two original rooms, providing them with contemporary comfort and a romantic atmosphere.

They traveled through Transylvania in search of old furniture and decorations, restored furniture, windows, stone walls, and built painted stoves. They reconstructed the 1869 wooden barn and completed the White Barn near the orchard, where you can now find a small Slow Food restaurant. Ingredients are gathered from local producer families, Transylvanian recipes are cooked as Marai’s grandparents did or slightly reinterpreted, and the team consists only of people from the village, creating a friendly atmosphere like the fire burning in the barn’s fireplace during the cold months.
