Restaurant the ARTIST was founded and opened in 2012 by husband and wife Paul and Mihaela Oppenkamp, both of them with extended experience in the hospitality industry and having spent over 12 years traveling around the world gaining knowledge and understanding of food and service practices that are now put to use daily in the restaurant. Paul, originally from Hoorn, The Netherlands, is the creator of the cuisine served in the restaurant, while Mihaela, originally from Bucharest, ensures a smooth front of house and administrative operation.

The story of Zexe Brasserie officially began in 2016, from the desire of Chef Pastry Ana Consulea to restore the taste of Romanian desserts.. During her long visits to the library with the aim of researching the history of Romanian sweets, she had learned that Romania had an extraordinary confectionery during the interwar period. Bucharest was the capital with the most confectioneries and cafes in Europe, in the period between the two world wars.
